PHILOSOPHY
The first rule of the Hippocratic Oath, taken by all physicians, is "do no harm." With this as a foundation, physicians apply their scientific knowledge and must develop "risk versus benefit" equations related to treatment options.
Historically, the medical field has been Paternalistic, where doctors make all decisions. Modern Medicine requires patients to be well informed. Joint decision-making is only possible when a patient truly understands their options, risks, benefits, and alternatives.
Dr. Phillips will spend the time needed with education so that his patients can feel comfortable about their treatment options.
